Burling Brown Architects have been planning, designing and developing industry- leading architecture Australia-wide for over four decades across the education, commercial, attraction, historical and residential sectors. They are based on the Gold Coast in Queensland and Darwin in the Northern Territory.
Burling Brown Architects with St Hilda’s School have successfully transformed an existing three storey 1980’s brick classroom building into a dynamic, innovative example of modern educational architecture. We caught up with architect Simon Brook to discuss the project.
What did you like about dealing with Lamicolor Pfleiderer?
We were impressed with their personal service, product and technical support and, of course, the product itself!
Why did you select the product that you did for this project?
The products are a durable alternative to plywood soffits
What was your inspiration behind your design decisions?
The client's brief was for something natural and warm to contrast the harsh industrial architecture. The building overlooks a cluster of large old fig trees. Their texture and colour was a great inspiration..
How did you feel about the final product?
We have achieved what we aimed for and more. We and the school have received many complements on the project.
What are the trends coming through now?
There appears to be a lot of demand for natural, inspired spaces and a big shift away from highly refined and clinical environments.
What is your "must read" publication/blog/social media platform and why?
Architecture Australia It is relevant and up to date and showcases a great range of different project types and solutions.
Are there any industry upcoming events that you may be interested in attending or that you are attending?
We are looking forward to seeing Lamicolor Pfleiderer at their next event.
